The faculty and graduate students from the Center for Accessibility and Safety for the Aging Population (ASAP) at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, recently participated in the 5th Annual University Transportation Centers (UTC) Conference for the Southeastern Region. The conference was held on November 16 and 17, 2017 and hosted by the University of Florida at Gainesville, Florida. The conference also included a student poster and paper competition for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards worth $500, $250 and $100, respectively. Out of the 65 posters displayed, from faculty and graduate students, two of our ASAP graduate students were elected as the first and second place winners in the competition. Ms. Jaqueline Masaki, a Ph.D. student in Civil and Environmental Engineering, won the first place for her poster titled "Safety Impact of Connected & Autonomous Vehicles for Older Drivers." The second place winner, also a student from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was Mr. Adekunle Adebisi, who presented a poster titled "Analysis of Performance Measures at Signalized Intersections in Mixed Autonomous & Conventional Traffic Conditions."
